Questions about Apollo
So.. new list....Rick Root 03/29/07 04:20 P So.. new list.... I have a question about Apollo that came up while I had a conversation with someone I may do some freelance work for last night. I see several advantages that apollo has - ability to interact with the local file system... no browser interoperability problems (since there's only ONE browser), etc. But if you're building an application in Flex... the advantages of deploying to the web - in my opinion - outweigh the advantages of going to the desktop. These advantages: 1 - no need to "install" the web-based flex app 2 - no need to distribute application updates that need to be installed. Update the swf on the server and everyone who accesses it gets the new swf. I installed the frame work and stuff at home and downloaded/installed the RSS reader.. which was impressive.. but I don't see it's value over a web-app like Google Reader. I guess it would be cool if you could cause such an app to automatically launch on startup, and maybe drive text ads or something into it... but you still have the problem of intallation and updates. Rick -- CFMBB - Coldfusion Message Boards, Version 1.21 Now Available! http://www.cfmbb.org Apollo has some cool things in it. I also downloaded the RSS reader and then built onto it. I am new to Flex as well so I think it was a really good learning experience. I agree that the uses are probably not exactly as widespread as Adobe might hope, but it's definitely pretty cool. We actually have a client that has tons of forms and need the ability to fill them out offline and sync them with the server. I think that would be the perfect scenario for Apollo and I think I'm going to try to make it happen. ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----
