[QUAR] Re: McCain - US is a Christian Nation,a President should be a Judeo ChristianONe thing to consider is that the first treaty signed by the nation of the united states, the treaty of tripoli explicly states that the US is not a Christian nation, to quote Article 11: Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries. -- Accordingly given that the treaty was signed and ratified in 1797, you're looking at a president (President John Adams) and a senate whose members were directly involved in the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. This treaty clause explicitly states that the US is not a christian nation. If the ratifiers did not also think so would they have ratified the treaty, and would the president have authorized it? |
