Hey, I have good news too! They need me in programming so I am getting
pulled in. I can choose to transition there entirely or in part if I want.
Not that I don't like support work, but there isn't any room for advancement
here and I need more intellectual challenge to continue having fun. Will be
learning .NET programming and more JavaScript.
yay!

They also tried to get Reagan to replace FDR on the US dime. I was amused when I
saw an informed interviewer ask one of these pundits why FDR should be removed
from the dime as there is a compelling reason why his image is there in the first
place.

Cha-ching :)
You can thank the Ronald Reagan Project for that. It's a group of
Republicans whose goal is to have a major feature in every county in the US
named after the gipper. They've also proposed carving his likeness in Mt.
Rushmore.

The real cute thing about it is that they want this mandated, but provide no
money for it. So it cost Arlington County about a million to make all the
changes.

I interviewed in the area, flew into BWI and then took the train down to get
picked up from Huntington METRO station down in Alexandria. My experiences
were:
- MARC only runs Monday through Friday. A ticket from Union Station to BWI
is something around $9 one way. On the weekends Amtrak makes the runs.
However, the tickets on the weekends are $20 one way. My Amtrak train was
about 2 hours late, but that was because of the very bad weather system.
- MARC and Metro connect up at Union Station on the Red Line. I don't know
if it would make more sense to take a taxi from the Airport to the hotel
though.
- You can fly into BWI via Southwest. They don't fly into any other airport
in the DC Metro. I'm looking at $78 plus taxes and fees to fly roundtrip
from Buffalo to Baltimore.
Hope these help someone. I can't make my travel plans until the middle of
next month anyway so I'm not sure if I'm going to try and get a room at the
hotel or look into arranging something with family that I have in the area.
Until Later!

From my limited experience with the SuperShuttles in this area, is that it
costs around $20 or so to go from Dulles to the outer suburbs. There is a
MARC train that goes from BWI to Union Station, there you could catch the
Metro.
However all in all, I think that you would be better off flying into Ronnie
Raygun and taking the Metro from there.

I can certainly see where people would get upset if two speakers they
want
to hear from are presenting simultaneously. But the reality of it is
that
the cost is so ridiculously cheap that an "either/or" scenario is still
worthwhile (IMO).
I just put in a request to the boss to send me. I'm sure the cost of

Where's information on the conference? Since I'm now my own boss I don't
know if my company is going to be sending me or not.

My two favorites events:
CFUN or any Michael Smith organized event
and
The CF-Community Suite at Devcon a couple of years ago.
The knowledge I learn from them and Adam Churvis' classes are what keeps
us going.
Meeting all the day-in, day-out CF people and getting to know them is a
fantastic plus.
Of course DevCon is a great event overall ... but I'm a chatter box and
a party person, so you all know that I like the one on one, cozy
atmosphere of a smaller group. :D
We're paid up for CFUN this year (paid last year), but have not
registered our intent to come. I've been lazy and keep forgetting. :D
I shall do it soon ...
It'll be our first US event in several years ...
Cheers,
Erika
I'll second that. What you get out of CFun hugely outweighs its cost.
Just
being able to sit down with an expert or two in the hall or over drinks
to
ask a direct question usually pays for the entire event.

Well, even the cost is not that much at all. I was actually surprised
how cheap it was.

That would be great, I would be up for that.
I know that both Tim and I have been to the last few CF-Fun. Sandy is a
speaker. AS are Michael D etc. So there will be a few of us there.

I'm the same way... I'm hoping to be able to speak at some of the
conferences coming up, but it may not be until next year.

Well this is the first company I have worked for that has approved me
going to something like this. I have always felt I was missing out on so
much too.
You don't get to meet me.
My company doesn't like to pay for me to attend conferences.
: (
I've missed so many CF events, I feel distant fro the other developers.

I just got the ok from my company to pay for me to go to CFUN. I'm
psyched, this will be the first CF based conference I have ever gone to.
Hopefully I will get to meet some of you from here.

I'll be there as will Judith. I'm speaking on remote data and hopefully some
RegEx talks if there's space.
As a side note and thanks, it was Sandy's help that allowed me to get the
HoF archives sidebar looking like it does.
