What I remember from the one time I've seen it, the cat sort of tied the stories
together. He was traveling, trying to get to Drew's room or something. And each
of the he/she/it witnessed each of the other stories along the way.
I also remember some kind of play on the "Cat's steal children's breath" lore.

Oh yea. I was blending the ledge one with the Quitter's Inc one. Guess it
has been a while since I have seen the movie. :)
I'm checking ONDemand this weekend when I am bored of eating Easter ham. I
need to see that one again.

I wish I could take credit for it, but one of the most underrated

If I remember correctly there was the "Run around the Ledge" story (somebody
had to circumnavigate a building on the outside ledge or be killed). There
was also the troll attacking a very young Drew Barrymore - which was
attacked by the cat (that was the title piece I think).
I don't know if there were any others.

I just really liked the set up - it was a mafia family whose don had died of
lung cancer. This was their way of "doing good" in the world - but they
kept the methods they know best.

medical procedure.
I was picturing a solution that would guarantee no more smoking.

No I've not seen Cat's Eye.
But the service to help folks quit by physically keeping them from smoking is
something I've thought interesting.
Have you seen Cat's Eye? Do your friends work for Quitter's Inc. ? :)

Good luck! I hope it works for you. Both my parents smoked for 15 years or so
before they stopped. I think my dad went through about 2 pounds of lemon drops a
day to replace the urge of a smoke.
ps.
If it doesn't work let me know. I've a couple unemployed friends who will follow
you around 24 hours a day and kick your ass every time you reach for a smoke.
They need cash bad so will probably work for about $10 an hour. I guess you
could consider a form of behavior modification.
Tonite's the night that I will hopefully become an ex-smoker. After
years (and an unthinkable amount of $ spent) of gum and patches that
all ultimately didn't work for me...cf-cfommunity's own Robert Bailey
(who is accompanying me as well) brought this to my attention.
http://www.stopsmokingjacksonville.com
In a nutshell, it's two shots...one behind each ear. supposedly kills
the chemical receptors in the brain that are addicted to nicotine.
they eventually grow back 'addiction-free'. tomorrow I should wake up
a bit groggy...but with no more physical addiction to nicotine. It's
a very weird thought.
I know the psychological addiction will still be there...I'm just
hoping that with my body not screaming out for a cigarette that I'll
be strong enough to handle just that aspect of it (I was no match when
I got double-teamed by a physchological -and- a physical addiction).
I'm just shy of 37 years old...and have been at least a pack-a-day
smoker since I was 15. That's a pretty significant portion of my life
that I've lived with a body that has physically craved nicotine
24/7/365. I'm having a pretty hard time imagining what it's going to
be like waking up tomorrow with that feeling gone.
Hell, i wasn't this nervous before I got married or before either of
my kids was born.
I think my -biggest- fear is that I'll eventually cave in to the
psychological cravings. At that point, I may just have to accept that
I'll likely die earlier than I needed to because if two shots to the
brain don't keep me off of cigarettes...I don't know that there's
anything else out there that possibly could.
anyway...just thought i'd share. thanks for listening :)

d'oH! i forgot about the one in the ass. although given the other
two are behing the ears, i'm not that worried about the one in the
ass. we've all gotten shots there before...I can't say the same for
the 2 to the head.

One thing that was pointed out to me a while back was that smoking
cessation methods only have about a 10% success rate - at followup ony
1 out of 10 people in most program successfully quit smoking. So what
about all those who have successfully quit (like me).
One was to look at this is all the research looks at one attempt to
quit only. People don't work that way, You talk with those who have
managed to quit and roughly 10% were able to quit on the first
attempt. Most others tried a number of times to quit before they were
successful.
So lets say you track 100 people trying to quit smoking, attempt 1 -
90 are still smoking, 10 quit. Attempt 2, 81 are still smoking, 19
have quit successfully. Attempt 3, 72 are still smoking, 28 have quit.
And so on. The point being is that even if this attempt isn't
successful keep trying, eventually something will work.
Also look at those situations where you really have a craving for a
cancer stick. Make a note of those, the environment at the time etc.,
and guesstimate how likely you are to successfully resist smoking in
those situations. Rank them on a continuium from most to least
difficult. That will give you some idea of what you need to work on
while quitting. It will help you set up strategies to successfully
resist smoking under those circumstances.

I found it a lot easier to quit when the physical craving was taken
care of. Though I managed, after multiple attempts, to get Nicorette
to work for me. I found it helpful to avoid situations where I had
previously smoked a lot (coffee, alcohol, etc). You probably can't
avoid all of them but remember that the less you think about it, the
less you will think about it, if that makes sense.
Anyway, congratulations on a good idea. I still say quitting smoking
was the smartest thing I have ever done.

And it is not just the shots. They give you medication for 2 weeks
afterwords, the same thing they inject ya with (the shot, as I
understand it, is just to get ya to a therapeutic level), and a path you
wear behind your ear for 6 days, and 40 Xanax (.5's). They also suggest
you go to behavior therapy as well. I have had a few people I know go

In any case, best of luck!
As an aside, i think most psychologists will tell you that a
multi-pronged
approach of medication and behavioral therapies will give you the best
chance for success. You might consider some of these therapies in the
days
and weeks after your shots....as opposed to sitting and hoping :)
