You gotta give credit to a film that keeps your interest then slaps you in the face (in a good way) at the end. "Twelve Monkeys" is what the inside of Terry Gilliam's head looks like. Seriously.  It also stars Bruce Willis who really does like his twist endings. "Soylent Green" is... come on people!  Don't you watch the classics? "A Big Hand for the Little Lady" shows that Westerns can have twist endings as well. "The Others" is one of the better Ghost movies... but it's twist ending is what had everybody talking. And of course... "The Sixth Sense" is probably the modern epitome of the subject.  I don't care if anybody thinks I'm dense: I didn't see the ending coming and I'm damn glad none of my retarded co-workers ruined it for me. (I know, I left a lot out.  You may replace any of the above with "Fight Club", "The Usual Suspects" or the original "Planet of the Apes" if you must.) Jim Davis

Twist endings are great when done properly. After the sucess of "The Sixth Sense", it seems like everbody is trying it which has lessened the quality. "Twelve Monkeys" - Good movie. "Soylent Green" - haven't seen it. Just put it in my netflix q. ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- "The Usual Suspects" - great movie "Planet of the Apes" - loved it when I was a kid. Have you seen "Haunted"? Made in 1995. Another one I pegged early on, but it got my wife. Well, it's 3:30 and baby has just finished her bottle. Back to bed for me. J

The Lions Gate Film "SAW" is a good one. I remember seeing previews for it online like a year before it finally came out, as its release kept getting pushed back. I was so excited for it, and it turned out alright :)

> Twelve Monkeys Fantastic film!! "Brazil" has a bit o'the ol'twist ending as well... > "Soylent Green" is... come on people!  Don't you watch the classics? hehe... I showed this film to my kids (they're 11 and 8) and now Green Tabasco sauce is loving referred to as "Soylent Green" :-D and in the words of Homer Simpson... mmmmmmmmmm...Soylent Greeeeeen... > "The Others" is one of the better Ghost movies... but it's twist ending is > what had everybody talking. not after Sixth Sense... had this one pegged right off, unfortunately... > "Fight Club" w00t! +1 on the twist there...though the "reveal" was a bit long winded IIRC... > "The Usual Suspects" I'm talkin' 'Orca' phat... +1 > "Planet of the Apes" freaked my son out. he still talks about that one... it really twisted him up. Especially since he had already seen the re-make (made me really glad that Burton re-twisted the ending) -- will "If my life weren't funny, it would just be true; and that would just be unacceptable." - Carrie Fisher

No, but it sounds good: The Other (1972) In the summer of 1935, 9-year-old twins Niles and Holland Perry live with their family on a Connecticut farm. Their loving grandmother Ada has taught them something called "the game." A number of accidents begin happening, and it seems to Niles that Holland is responsible. It is Ada who begins to see the truth, and she is the only one who can stop this macabre game of murder. ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

Wow thanks for finding it. I can't believe it's $35 used at Amazon. Maybe I'll catch it on cable. http://www.scifilm.org/reviews2/theother.html The Final Word Every so often, I'm lucky enough to come across a film that I know nothing about and be blown away by it. THE OTHER was one of those films. It's a shame that thirty years after its release, it has been all but forgotten, only airing occasionally on cable. As far as psychological horror films go, this is one of the best. It's as good or better than THE SIXTH SENSE and similar films that have received so much attention lately. THE OTHER builds slowly, lulling you into a sense of security, before entrapping you with a climax so powerful and horrifying that you will not soon forget it. I can't recommend it highly enough. > No, but it sounds good: > The Other (1972)
