Microcenter is selling the 16gig iPad2 for $350. I am really thinking about getting one. I found an app for managing SQL Server but is there a Dreamweaver or other CF editor? Rick

Texttastic is very good. Full syntax and code highlighting, multiple connectivity - ftp, sftp, webdav, email, and dropbox. Its well worth it. larry ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

Yeah, I am already sold... I played around with my keyboardist ipad2 last night. She had to practically beat me over the head to get it back from me! For about the last 6 months her and our guitarist have been using them on stage to share sheet music/chord charts. They have this program that searches and pulls up the lyrics and chord changes.. (much like all the Tab/Lyrics sights do) if one doesn't have they just sort of flick it to the other. It makes hosting jams and doing new songs so much easier. I have a program on my Android call Guitar Tapps but it' not near as nice. I was looking at it and it doesn't have a USB port, but I found a couple of items like this online http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/516429343/new_product_for_3_port_usb.html So I should be able to plug up my external Passport to it... right? I've got 3 ipads (2 ipad 1's + 1 ipad 2)... all with 64GB of ram. My wife uses one of the ipad 1's... my children (4 & 6) use the other iPad 1. One uses Verizon 3G, the other use AT&T. I use the iPad 2 with Verizon 3G. I just came back from Montana / Wyoming with no connectivity issues. Am heading to Cleveland (June) and Dallas (July). From past experience - both areas area heavily saturated with 3G. The iPad has drastically / dramatically changed the way I develop software. I carry the iPad with me everywhere I go. There's a great app called SimpleNote that allows me to track everything I need. You can also access / update your data via their website (which is fantastic). I've got 4 or 5 laptops as well as several desktop's sitting around the house - that I HAVE NOT turned in since I bought the first iPad 1 over 2 years ago. I only have 3 systems running in the house now (I work from home). One is a local internet Linux server (typical LAMP setup). Another is a local Win Server (CF +  SQL Server ENT). Both servers are setup to respond as if they were live servers. The only difference from a live server is the url... ip based instead of domain based. The 2 local servers are for development, design, and testing, etc - until I push a product out to a live server. The last desktop is actually a MacPro that I use for photography and editing graphics. Even though Photoshop is on the iPad... the MacPro is not going away any time soon. All the desktops have dual 26" monitors. I do maintenance code editing, ftp, ssh... just about everything except graphic work directly from my ipad. That includes office stuff like email, letters, spreadsheets, and invoicing. I had a dedicated accounting laptop that has now sitting on the shelf since I found an invoicing software (called invoice2go) a couple weeks ago. Email, word processing, and spreadsheets on the iPad is NOT THE GREAT. In my opinion - do not buy the iPad for Email, Word Processing, or Spreadsheets. (from my understanding) Apple will not allow a competing email app on the iPad... and their Word Processor (Pages) and their Spreadsheet (Numbers) is very primitive. Useful for really basic stuff but no way can compete with the full power MS Office. If you need something like MS Office on the iPad... use Google Docs. Editing code directly on the iPad is not the same as having the 2 monitors side by side. I don't really use it to "develop code". I use the iPad to produce high level design for systems / mockup's etc, database design, and to maintain / manage code. SSH into a Linux box live or local IS FRIGG'N INCREDIBLE. Completely eliminates the laptop. If I'm starting a system from scratch... I generally use the MacPro until the core system is running. Dual monitors makes difference. After that, I switch to the iPad. My first iPad was purchased new. The other 2 were purchased on ebay as refurbs. Have not had any issues at all. Save a little money... buy a refurb model. If you need the need warranty, buy the apple warranty before the 90 warranty expires. I have never had to use the warranty. Remember the old Honda stickers ? I love my Honda... Well... I LOVE MY IPAD'S. Pierre Yeah...i got to the west suburban Chicago one a lot...they have a great selection. We have a Microcenter in Vienna Virginia here. Can you run a CF and Webserver on one or do you need sftp your code to check? That would mean internet all over again. One for the home, two for the phones and another for tablets? The internet should be free and we're paying over $100 a month? I would like to run code on the plane or train but I don't want to pay for connectivity. I guess I'll stick with the laptop. Do they still make netbooks? . ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

I have UVerse TV/Phone/Internet at home and Sprint Mobile... I turned my Hot-Spot on for Sprint. I know that it costs but it isn't that much and it seems to be more reliable than some of the connections I have gotten from Cable. (I just switched from Comcast to UVerse). Someone told me there is an app you can install on an Android to turn on the hot-spot. I never looked for it. Rick Can you run a CF and Webserver on one or do you need sftp your code to check? Most of the times I used the built-in keyboard... fast 4-finger method. 2 pointing fingers and 2 thumbs. When I code... I use a Bluetooth keyboard. I am rarely away from a power adapter. I think I have 6or so now... all over the house. That way I rarely wear down the battery. for some small changes, and emergency fixes, textastic on the ipad is AMAZING for me. i can finally work on the golf course if I HAD to. niiiiice On Thu, May 17, 2012 at 3:20 PM, Vivec <gel214th@gmail.com> wrote: ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

I use a Zagg Keyboard Case. its a nice little bluetooth keyboard that works pretty well. I used to use a keyboard case but I really did not like the soft rubber keyboard. Then my ferret chewed it up. The Zagg case is nice Same brushed aluminium look and the keyboard is really responsive. Yes - current rev is 3.... though it' not called the iPad 3. Just called "iPad". Which kind of weird - but Apple pulls this kind of stunt with the iPod also. In the beginning of time - there was the iPad... known as the iPad 1. ATT 3G only, Wifi. Then came the iPad 2... known as iPad 2. Smaller, faster, lighter, thinner, better screen, better battery. Verizon + ATT 3G, Wifi. And know the iPad 3... known as simply the iPad. Little bigger than than 2, little heavier I think, battery life is shorter. Fantastic screen. ATT + Verizon 4G, Wifi. I have not and do not intend to upgrade to "rev 3". The iPad 2 screen is good enough for me. Apple seems to be releasing iPad's on 6 month to 12 month cycles. Full rev release on 12 month cycles. So that means the iPad 4 will be out April / May / June 2013. Might consider that rev... but mine still work great. Save money. Buy a refurb iPad 1 or 2. I picked up a refurb iPad 1 for $250 / ebay. Came directly from Apple with a 90day warranty. Also bought a 1 year warranty... but have not needed to use either warranty. the current is 3, right? would i miss any thing? higher res display... mot sure if it matters...

Oops. I forgot. iPad's come in standard memory configs of 16gb, 32gb, and 64gb. All mine are 64gb... and I use the space for photos / videos. If your wallet stretches... gets the 32 or 64. I eat 16 for breakfast. Side-topic... I just tested the Samsung Android Tablet with the Ice Cream OS. Screen Response time is much, much better than Honeycomb. Nice improvement. Tablet is still not as good as the iPads... interface is not as slick. Response is lags a little but acceptable. If you prefer Droids over iPad... the Samsung looks decent. The droid marketplace is way behind the iPad marketplace but catching up. I got a hold of a review Microsoft tablet also. Running Windows Tablet 8 with the Metro style OS. Interesting little thing. Still playing with it. Yes - current rev is 3.... though it' not called the iPad 3. Just called "iPad". Which kind of weird - but Apple pulls this kind of stunt with the iPod also.
