Two different tracks today for your listening pleasure that share nothing in common except for having female vocalist. First up is an electric soul from the Twin Cities by the name of Mankwe Ndosi. Powerful, robust sound, bit hip hoppy, bit dancish, not quite sure where I'd categorize it other than "good" and the fact that I'll put it on my next party mix. Henrietta Goes Electric: http://soundcloud.com/mankwe/mankwe-henrietta-goes-electric Next up is a band from the Boston area called Lake Street Dive. The thing I really love about them is that they are music-school trained musicians who are able to use their training without falling into the trap of trying to be too clever and forgetting the funkiness. Great strong voice on the lead singer and the rhythm section is tight. Fun time changes that enhance the songs and don't get in the way of enjoyability. I just bought their self titled album and the live videos out there don't really do them justice, so I'm going to go with a somewhat difficult link but should be rewarding. The song is called Got Me Fooled and the synchronized upright bass and organ runs are just sick. Follow this link to a playlist and then scroll down to right near the bottom and play Got Me Fooled. Then enjoy the rest of the playlist if you like.  http://bit.ly/MA6ECR Cheers and happy tuesday to y'all, Judah

Ah, just noticed that was from Pickathon. I've been to that 3 times. I _just_ missed the Strawberry Park Bluegrass Festival here in Connecticut (and the Zydeco Festival last weekend). Summer snuck up on me before I realized, and I didnt know it was time. ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

That's awesome. I'm volunteer staff at Pickathon for the last 6 years. It's held at the farm of good friends of mine, where I held my wedding. Really an amazing festival, quality all around and more like a big family gathering than a normal music festival. One of the highlights of my year, every year. If you find yourself heading back one of these years, give me a holler, I'll save you a campsite and buy you a beer. Cheers, Judah > > Ah, just noticed that was from Pickathon.
