Some MAC help
its pretty cool so far, less integrated into ACTUAL finder than TotalFinder is ** Private ** 08/14/12 05:13 P Yeah - I want to spend some time customizing it. I'd love to find a way to ** Private ** 08/14/12 05:22 P yeah, but in a way, i think its good NOT mucking with finder, and being standalone, nawwwimean? ** Private ** 08/14/12 05:34 P OK, so I am trying to move some files from my MAC to my external HDD. Normally in Windows you just expand the external drive and drag the folders or files where you want on it. Well it appears I cannot do that on the mac. So I thought I'd just copy the folders, then paste them onto the external drive, then delete the files on the mac. No joy on this one. I also can't open two finder's either. Any ideas? Thanks, Bruce 1. get totalfinder (great app to expand what finder can do) 2. you *may* just need to format it for mac (journaled) using?! ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- First off can you see the external drive. I'm assuming here that its an external USB drive. have you tried reseating the USB? Assuming that's not the problem this tutorial may help. http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2581/os_x_move_files_instead_copying/ Also learn the Terminal its your friend. You can do a lot more with that than the finder. Also David Pogue's book on Mountain Lion gives you some very good suggestions: http://www.amazon.com/OS-Mountain-Lion-Missing-Manual/dp/1449330274/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1344914124&sr=1-1&keywords=osx+mountain+lion Since OSX is just BSD UNIX with a really good interface you may want to look at some basic Unix books. ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- forgot to ask have you tried holding down the CMD while dragging the files to the external drive? ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- > 1. get totalfinder (great app to expand what finder can do) Take a look at Path Finder too... -Cameron ... better than total finder?! -- Tony Weeg tonyweeg [at] gmail [dot] com On Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:30 AM, Camer ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- > better than total finder?! Not sure, I've really just started using the 30 day trial. It has tabbed browsing and a "Drop Stack" where you can drop files while you're looking for where you want to copy/move them. It also claims to have SVN support, but I haven't figured that one out yet. -Cameron ... its pretty cool so far, less integrated into ACTUAL finder than TotalFinder is using it now, we'll see :) On Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 10:41 AM, Camer ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- Yeah - I want to spend some time customizing it. I'd love to find a way to make it my default finder for all things finder. > its pretty cool so far, less integrated into ACTUAL finder than > TotalFinder is > > using it now, we'll see :) yeah, but in a way, i think its good NOT mucking with finder, and being standalone, nawwwimean? -- Tony Weeg tonyweeg [at] gmail [dot] com On Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 4:21 PM, Camer ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----
