JOB SUMMARY
The SQL Database Administrator will work with developers to design the database
and ensure it is solid, normalized and optimized; and ensure that the database is
available 24x7 (monitor system logs, event logs, disk space, etc.).
The individual will provide:
• Constant monitoring of the database system and implement proactive measures to
ensure it is performing at necessary levels
• Participate in code reviews with developers to ensure that stored procedures
are correctly written and optimized
• Set standards for the development of stored procedures
• Ensure that the correct HW is in place for the database system and anticipate /
implement necessary upgrades as system load increases
• Assist in data warehouse implementation
• Work with the Operations team on best practices for backups and upgrades /
patches and on developing a good recovery strategy; and provide Report Writing,
and adhoc queries.
The appropriate individual will have demonstrated experience in SQL database
design and production database support and administration of high transaction,
high availability, large data set systems using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 that
includes: stored procedure development / enhancement, performance optimization,
and debugging and troubleshooting skills.
Specifically, the individual must have a minimum of 5+ years SQL Server database
experience (at least 2 with 2005), working knowledge of Data Transformation
Services (DTS) and database replication, working knowledge of Microsoft Reporting
Services, support developers, Operations and QA team throughout the SDLC process;
and large scale systems delivered with high quality and within prescribed
timelines and experience with notification services highly preferred.
