Hello -
I'm writing to advertise a ColdFusion development position at ICMA, an
association for those in professional positions in local government.
We're in something of a transition, as we're moving a significant
portion of our development from ColdFusion to .NET, but we still have a
lot of CF to maintain and enhance.
The ideal candidate would be equally facile in CF and VB.NET, but we're
also considering a 6-month temporary hire of someone with mostly CF
skills (with possibility of permanent after 6 months).
JOB SUMMARY:
The Web Developer is responsible for the development and maintenance of
several key applications within ICMA's web site. The Web Developer
should be comfortable developing and maintaining systems using in
VB.NET, ColdFusion, Microsoft SQL Server, as well as JavaScript/AJAX and
CSS.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Maintain and implement enhancements to existing ColdFusion
applications, including ICMA's Job Center site, Credentialing system
(used for professional development tracking), and Bookstore.
* Develop and enhance .NET applications for ICMA's new Knowledge
Network site in collaboration with internal and external developers.
* Build and maintain SQL code (design and create databases,
stored procedures, etc.) to support web application development.
* Maintain a ColdFusion-based internal task tracking system for
IT requests and projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Facility with current web development trends and techniques, including
AJAX, JavaScript, VB.NET, ColdFusion and SQL are requirements for this
position. Additional skill requirements include:
* Strong written and verbal communication skills. You'll be
helping non-technical internal customers translate business requirements
into actionable design/development specifications.
* Superior organization and documentation skills. You'll be
responsible for a variety of web-based systems, and should be able to
demonstrate your attention to detail and willingness to provide
thorough, clear documentation as you work.
* Development experience with web services, RSS, XML, and other
APIs for integration between systems.
* Knowledge of design and usability principles. You don't
consider web development to be entirely separate from design and user
interface.
* Familiarity with web standards and cross-browser,
cross-platform development and testing. You should be able to
demonstrate your ability to use CSS for tableless layout.
* Desirable skills:
o Experience with developing mobile web applications and/or
iPhone/iPod applications
o Experience with AJAX or Flex
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, web design/development,
or comparable work experience.
* 4+ years of experience in ColdFusion or .NET development
environments.
* Experience working with nonprofits/associations a plus.
