While surfing the O'Reilly Mac Development Center site:
http://macdevcenter.com/
I found a reference that may be of interest
iTunes Music Store and the WWW This is potentially revolutionary, it
means anyone can build software to talk to the Apple store, using
nothing more than an XML parser and an HTTP client, neither of which
are hard to come by or use.
The link is to:
http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/200x/2003/04/30/AppleWA
To sum it up:
You can search Apple's Music store from the web with a browser
or a CF
program
You do this with a URL that looks like this:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/
advancedSearchResults?songTerm=Walk%20Don't%20R
This returns an XML packet with the Search results
If the User is running on a Mac, your CF Program could open
iTunes 4
and allow the user to
preview the song by substituting itms: for http: in the above
URL
Presumably, there is (or will be) a mechanism to purchase tracks
or
albums, retrieve album graphics, download the music, etc,
(all these are capabilities of the Apple Music Store)
There are lots of possibilities here!. Your music collections could be
stored online in a database and manipulated/played from anywhere. Your
program could index and categorize your collections. You could add
options to retrieve album art and lyrics, etc.
You could put together custom playlists and download them to your iPod
(or other mp3 player) or for burning to CD.DVD.
And, all of it legal!
