Not sure about Ultraseek, but... K2 requires a LOT more work to setup each connection than normal Verity, but the speed difference is astounding If you're setting it up, first you have to activate it (which takes some work on the server), then each collection needs to be connected to the K2 server (more work on the server itself) Once they're connected though, it's well worth it Remember K2 comes with CF Philip Arnold wrote: >>What is this the difference between the verity engine, the >>verity k2 server and Verity Ultraseek ? > K2 requires a LOT more work to setup each connection than normal Verity, > but the speed difference is astounding Typically this involves running a .bat file to start the Verity K2 Service :) > If you're setting it up, first you have to activate it (which takes some > work on the server), then each collection needs to be connected to the > K2 server (more work on the server itself) Verity K2 collections are created and maintained in exactly the same way you would a normal Verity collection (they are the same thing). K2 is just an enhanced search service for your existing collections. To register a collection with the K2 service its a simple entry per collection in the K2 ini file, then restart the K2 service. > Once they're connected though, it's well worth it If you have a very small collection, you're unlikely to see a difference. But the larger the document collection the more significant the K2 service performance benefit becomes. K2 is just a dedicated Verity search engine that loads the collections into memory. Another benefit is that you can set up a single K2 instance and have other servers point to it. This allows you to set up your Verity searching in a distributed way.
