is there a mssql2k beyond compare tool? i have a failing server with tons of crap on it. 1% free space. need to move old back ups, create new backups, then migrate them... i need to move the databases to a newer server. but they have about 45% overlap in database names. so looks like the previous developer was in the process of migrating every thing, but thta didnt get completed and there is no documentation.. so is there a tool i can use to analyze differences. man.. i am so sqrewd.. any help would be beautiful.. -paul.

it's expensive at $595 for the bundle, but RedGate's SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare are top-notch and well worth it. http://www.red-gate.com/Products/index.htm On Tue, May 20, 2008 at 9:08 AM, Paul Ihrig <pihrig@gmail.com> wrote: ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

+1 for the RedGate tools. They are *unbelievably* useful if you're thrown in with lots of poorly documented MSSQL databases or just problems. On Tue, May 20, 2008 at 10:23 AM, Crow T. Robot <crow.tee.robot@gmail.com> wrote: ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----

----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- Paul, check out xSQL Software's (http://www.xsqlsoftware.com) xSQL Object for comparing and synchronizing database schemas (structure) and xSQL Data Compare for comparing and synchronizing the data - you may not have to pay anything at all - check this for a description of how we license our products: http://xsqlsoftware.blogspot.com/2008/04/unique-hassle-free-software-licensing.html

I think that apex software has a tool that does this. N ............................................................................ ..... We use "redgate"... It's a commercial tool but quite powerful. -mark Mark A. I use ApexSQL, it's cheaper I believe then RedGate's tools and just as powerful I believe.  They do have a few bugs in some of the later versions, but I haven't had any data loss due to them, only have had to modify some queries that it generates.
