If people are looking for an editor (as opposed to an IDE that does project/asset management, refactoring, etc) I'd suggest you look into extending one of the various editors out there that already has some CF support. Take a look at TextMate (for OS X) and the Windows counterpart, E-TextEditor. Both are editor oriented and both have pluggable language bundles including CFML. The CFML support, in my opinion, isn't bad though it isn't great either. Personally, I use CFEclipse for all my development and have for a couple years now and then I use Notepad++ for editing large text files or when I need a really quick little text change to an arbitrary file. It did take me awhile to get used to the Eclipse project-oriented model and to local development. Now that I have, I wouldn't go back. Also, if you need more file-based access (as opposed to project-based) in CFEclipse, take a look at the Aptana plugin. It does a pretty good job of giving you a local file explorer and also integrating FTP into the work flow. How much would you be willing to pay for that? Jochem -- Jochem van Dieten http://jochem.vandieten.net/ I've been planning to update Homesite's expression builder and docs to ColdFusion 9 for a while now. It's just been on the back burner while I do paying projects. I'll eventually get around to it but if it was for pay rather than for community support, it would get done a LOT faster. Either way, it'll still get done though. If someone does step up to the plate to do this, I can dig up a copy of Nate Weiss's visual VTML editor for them to use (I usually edit VTML by hand). I can also comment a bit on where things are under the hood in Homesite and what has to be done. Once you know where everything is and how to alter it, all you have to do is write some regex to parse the docs and build the files. Yes, I make it sound easy because it is. :) ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- I'll raise my hand for this. I probably won't be able to do it all, but if a few of us all work on it then it should get done pretty quick. Let me know what I need to do. Steve Does anyone use homesite still?) I tried CFECLIPSE and I tried the beta version of Adobes CF developer thing. Both are nice, both are a drain on system resources, slow, and bloated. Yes there are some nice features, but there is something to be said for just have a nice straight up, low burden code editing tool with insight, and a good search/replace routine. And yes, I use Dreamweaver too... but it's also slow and bloated." That sums up my feelings exactly, except that I have tried dreamweaver, but don't use it. While I'm firmly in the CFBuilder camp - for those who say Dreamweaver is slow and bloated... have you tried it lately? I "had" to use DWCS4 for some articles I wrote for Adobe last year and I was _damn_ impressed. It isn't as good as CFBuilder, but it worked very well and has some incredible features in regards to CSS/JS development. Seriously - if you don't like CFB and haven't tried a _modern_ Dreamweaver, I'd give it a chance again. ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- -- =========================================================================== Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master Email : ray@camdenfamily.com Blog : www.coldfusionjedi.com AOL IM : cfjedimaster Keep up to date with the community: http://www.coldfusionbloggers.o I have cs4 installed.
