Martin Hi Martin, always good to see a new community in another country, well done, but too many dispersed communities does have a negative effect over all as people do not communicate or collaborate with each other, so I would suggest working in conjunction with existing communities and sharing resources, lists, discussion groups etc rather than starting a whole new set, remember that most things are global and not country specific. For example, for collaboration I run a Google Apps over at www.cfmldeveloper.com which is open to EVERYONE and as well as free gmail gives users the added bonus of being to collaborate within the same domain and share docs, code, use the peer review system, chat, etc. You may also find some other useful resources on these 2 sites which will save you some work. www.cf411.com www.cfsearch.com On Mon, Apr 30, 2012 at 7:34 AM, Martin Parry < martin.parry@beetrootstreet.com> wrote: ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- I agree Russ (I just registered) but there's no harm in identifying the Australian CF presence and unifying it and then as part of that working out how as a community we can work in with the larger community but full marks Martin. Based on current activity, the Usergroups arent interested in it, Adobe in Australia doesnt seem very interested in it, the people organising conferences apparently arent much interested, and it basically seems to be petering out of existence. Us developers are just left to our own devices it seems. So someone taking an interest in ColdFusion again is a GOOD THING. Thank you Martin. Martin - I would love to hear more about what you plan to do with the site. Sorry to be super cynical, but so far it just looks like a site to collect a lot of people's personal information. I mean, why do you need my address, zip and the company I work at to register interest? On it's face value, this site could seem to just be a fishing expedition for personal information. That being said, maybe it's not (and I hope it isn't) - just that I've not seen you around the regular Aussie ColdFusion water coolers, so I've got nothing to base the opinion on. Looking forward to hearing more! The Usergroup is not interested in ColdFusion as far as I can see. And WebDU doesn't have the word "ColdFusion" anywhere on the agenda. No CF topics at all. CFAussie is almost no traffic. CFJobs has had only a couple of postings in the last few months. I fully understand how Martin Parry could come to the conclusion that there is no CF Community here in Australia. And I applaud any attempt to give it a bit of a kick-start. But of course I also note Mark's scepticism about this - you're right, Mark, it could be a simple case of details harvesting for any of a number of purposes, not all of them above-board. Mike, the user group is still interested in Coldfusion, and I'm keen on any topic ideas and speaker suggestions you may have or from anyone else in the Sydney for that matter. And just for the record we've had 2 CF topics, one of them was at the Short Talks night where there CFWheels as one of the short talks. Looking forward to your ideas and suggestions. Just look at Adobe groups and you'll see a large number of already established groups in most major capital cities. I see from your web site that you are based in North Wales, so I'm assuming you are still there. But if you are actually here in Australia, we are quite happy to have you involved. Just contact you nearest community manager to discuss how you would like to participate. Also, WebDU[1] is happening this week (Thurs, Fri) in Sydney and CF.Objective (ANZ)[2] in Melbourne on 1 & 2 November, so please come and join us.
