per diem expensesCrow T. Robot wrote: > Anybody know what the going rate is for per diem meals expenses? > > Boss is telling me she thinks the going rate is $32 per day. As long as you don't eat in the hotel, you can get away pretty easily with $32. There is a 7-11 a few hundred yards away that was my source of breakfast usually - a Coke Zero, and some fruit, muffins, cereal, etc... That left me free to spend whatever I needed for dinner. But there are also plenty of nearby restaurants that you can eat in very affordably. Oh, and if I remember correctly, there's also a McDonalds right across the street. They actually do have good salads =) As for the "going rate".. get yourself a university job ;) We have "guidelines" but they are flexible depending on the kind of place you're doing business. Normally, $180/night for a hotel is out of the range of our guidelines but I'm allowed to do it because that's where the conference is. They make adjustments for staying in convenient places in large cities and such. The higher-ups where i am also realize that when you're in a place like DC, "cheap meals" aren't always nearby. They'd rather pay $30 for dinner in the hotel than $20 for dinner at TGIFridays along with the $20 cab ride. =) Rick |
