In fact, attendees at this weekend's Fusebox Conference will be the first to see some of the things we have been working. Look for information of the new functionality next week after the conference. So why the long period of time without updates? We made the decision to hold back all new functionality until we could improve our core handling of CFML. After all any amount of interesting functionality is useless for CFML developers if we don't do a good job on CFML itself. As you know, we have been working on a BNF-based parser for CFML. While building such a parser for CFML is a significant undertaking we managed to accomplish it some time ago. However, successfully being able to parse the entire CFML grammar isn't quite enough to be useful for an IDE. We also needed to have the parser support malformed CFML grammar as is the case when you are editing CFML source as well as track variable assignments. Both of which are large tasks in-and-of-themselves, but the benefits are immense. I am pleased to state that we have largely solved these issues and are planning our next release. This release will include our new parser, additional functionality, and a new more modular package significantly reducing the size of the distribution. -Matt Matt, thanks for the update. I appreciate it, as I'm sure others do. -r > I know we have been quiet for some time now, but that doesn't mean we > haven't working to improve He3. Matt and I have been talking (in fact we just got off the phone) and we're reviewing our list for beta2. We'll probably do another big internal build this week/weekend and have a better status on things. We'll be sure to keep everyone posted. rish ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- Just checking in. Been over a month now. If it will be longer, let me know and I'll stop bugging you. ;) ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- Sorry for the long delay folks. Daily pressures have created some coordination issues (one of those being that Matt has been out of the country for extended periods). We'll keep everyone posted. rish ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more ----- It has been a very long time now since the last update. Any news? We originally set a deadline for releasing a beta at CFUN-04 only to learn we didn't have enough time to make it. We did release the beta, but then we got stuck in a long hard road of bug fixing and responding to customer demand. We couldn't keep up. We put a lot of work into He3 in anticipation of a second beta only to learn that we had an architecture that wouldn't scale. As such, we decided not to release a second beta or any additional updates to He3 until which time we had a scalable architecture. Now it is 2005 and we still haven't provided any updates. However, He3 remains strong. We continue to have hundreds of people using our product as their default IDE (based on update stats). People continue to inquire about the status of the project and wish us well. There is no doubt that CFEclipse is the de facto Eclipse-based IDE for CFers, but people continue to request He3 nevertheless. To this end, we are working to secure a partnership with an established commercial software vendor to help us bring He3 to market in a polished form. Quite simply, there will be no future releases of He3 until we can ensure that it is a proper replacement for ColdFusion Studio/Homesite. -Matt ----- Excess quoted text cut - see Original Post for more -----
