I seem to be alone in this issue because I am a Mac user in an Ocean of PC's. (Don't bother with the comparison crap) I purchase a DevNet subscription which noted that some apps were "Windows Only". After purchasing the well publicized "Non Returnable" and "65% savings" subscription, I find out that the items aren't "Window Only" but "Windows Subscribers Only". This is a huge difference. I guess if I would have read the 20 faq's I would have eventually found the words "one subscription - one platform". Why does MM choose for me not to have Homesite or the Data Connection Kit, just because I do the majority of my work on a Mac. Is there a secret way to install these??? I could secretly run them on both? That must be it!!! In addition the "Data Connection Kit" which was one of the main reason for purchasing the subscription is not available for me to use on my PC. There has be some realization over at MM that Mac developers are forced to use both platforms to use their products. I've bitten the bullet and bought the applications for both. Now I have to buy the "Data Connection Kit" separate for my PC when I can't ever possibly use it on my Mac? What is MM afraid of? What am I asking? a) change the wording on the site so no-one else gets this sinking feeling. b) don't penalize me for using a Macintosh as my main development platform.

Not to confuse this issue, because the previous poster is talking specifically about DevNet, but . . . some of us mac users use Windows via Virtual PC running on top of OSX. I'd like to run Homesite in my Virtual machine, but there's no way to install it from my OSX MX Studio disk (it's not there). I would guess this is an issue MM hasn't given much thought to. Are we supposed to buy 2 OS versions of Studio to run on a single system? kb

It's more a matter of reading the license than the FAQ. The DevNet Tools software is licensed on a per-seat basis, which means all the tools must be installed on a single computer. According the EULA, therefore, it wouldn't make sense to make both Windows and Macintosh versions available to a single subscriber. Christian

If you can recite the EULA you need to get out more, but I respect that. I'm paying for it now. The point that I was trying to make was that I was lured (I feel deceptively) into buying the subscription, when I would have been better off purchasing the items separate and doing whatever the hell I wanted with them instead of MM being big brother.

FYI, This is covered in the DevNet FAQ: -- http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/subscriptions/faq.html#1_5 When I subscribe to DevNet, can I get both Macintosh and Windows version of the tools software? No. When you subscribe to DevNet Professional you must choose one platform for your Macromedia MX tools. You will only receive serial numbers for the software on the platform you chose. If you need tools for the other platform, you will need to either purchase another DevNet Subscription, Macromedia Studio MX, or the individual tools. -- and -- http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/subscriptions/faq.html#1_10 Do Macintosh versions of DevNet Professional include Contribute and the Macromedia Firefly Compontents? No. Macromedia Contribute and the Macromedia Firefly Components are currently only available for Windows and therefore, only Windows versions of DevNet Professional include them. -- mike chambers mesh@macromedia.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug Bedient" <doug@thebedients.com> To: "Macromedia-Talk" <macromedia-talk@houseoffusion.com> Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2003 1:34 PM Subject: DevNet Subsription - Macintosh

I not questioning what's written in the FAQ OR the EULA. I tend to read the first 3/4 to make sure nobody's going to own my house and move on. I was questioning the logic behind the MM decision. One extra word on the "levels and features page" - (windows only) to (window subscribers only) would have been much more straight forward and I would have know to buy the items serparate and installed them in the manner I needed. On a + note, I enjoy reading you articles and appreciate the response, and the participation in all the lists.

I'll pass this suggestion along to the DevNet team. Thanks, Doug. Christian
