Author: S. Isaac Dealey Short Link: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/ontap/thread.cfm/threadid:726#2096 I've just completed the initial testing for framework version 2.3 beta. The significant changes since version 2.0 are the elimination of support for ColdFusion 5, and the revision of several key freamework features which no longer need to support that version: - caching - library loader - file system tools - storage of html library elements - storage of localized data - sql abstraction layer If I've done everything correctly, you shouldn't notice any functional differences to the codebase with the exception of some minor revision of features to the sql abstraction layer (all tags now support the execute attribute to return the generated sql syntax instead of executing the query, although you can no longer override the attributes of a dsn by passing additional attributes like username and password to these tags). You may notice that when you run the framework, the server scope no longer directly exposes loads of cached file-system variables (relative paths for example) as a result of the implementation of CFC's which hide this cache. Similar changes were made to the request, session and application scopes for cache data from the html library and other sources. IMPORTANT NOTE: There is also a minor but necessary update for all function libraries. All the plugins have been updated with the necessary library tweak. Read the release notes if you have your own functions and/or libraries that need updating (it's a painless change). Less Important Note: I've also made some minor revisions to the feature set for html select elements recently (version 2.1 I believe) which may help to improve performance with form pages, and should definitely improve the ability to cache forms by allowing select elements to generate their option list by default at display time so the options are no longer cached along with the form. Manually created option queries and/or manually created option elements should continue to function as normal, even when combined with display-time options. As always, questions and comments are welcome. :) s. isaac dealey     434.293.6201 new epoch : isn't it time for a change? add features without fixtures with the onTap open source framework http://www.fusiontap.com http://coldfusion.sys-con.com/author/4806Dealey.htm
